Dr. Ramesh Raliya’s scientific curiosity sparked at an early age. “I was raised in a farming family in Rajasthan, India, and I learned early that agriculture is both incredibly important and incredibly difficult,” he says. “Farmers make decisions about soil, water, weather, fertilizer, pests, markets, and economics, often with very little margin for error. That experience stayed with me. I eventually pursued science because I wanted to understand how to solve those problems at a fundamental level.”
His career path led him from agricultural research in India to advanced research at Washington University in St. Louis. There, his work focused on nanotechnology, materials science, and nutrient delivery, as well as the translation of laboratory discoveries into usable, accessible technologies.
